What is a Brand Refresh & How Can it Help Your Business?

As a small business owner myself, I know what it's like when you're just starting out. You want to be able to do everything yourself in order to keep costs down, but if you're not a designer, tackling your own brand might not be the smartest choice. I completely understand that you may already have some brand elements that you love and that feel really connected to your business but once your business exposure increases, you may start to realize you aren't putting your most professional face (aka brand) forward. This is where a graphic designer can help you! Ideally someone who specializes in branding, a graphic designer can see simple but important tweaks that can be made to your branding to drastically improve it and take it to a more polished, professional level.

Some of my creative clients already have brand elements established and they need help to refine and perfect their design. I offer a brand refresh service where I work to improve a client's existing logo and accompanying brand elements (typography, colour palette) as well any new assets moving forward like postcards, marketing materials, business cards, digital templates and so much more! A brand refresh is a fraction of the cost of a full brand design or rebrand, since business values, imagery, and branding has already been designed and just needs an overhaul. It's a great option for small businesses and entrepreneurs who are working with a tighter budget.

Here is an example of a recent project I completed for an online fabric retailer client, Blackbird Fabrics. They had a cute brand idea already in the works and I helped transform it into something exceptional.

This is what Blackbird's branding looked before and after the brand refresh:

I cleaned up the logo design, made sure the script font had the proper kerning and corrected any discrepancies that arose between the connections of the script letterforms. I also edited the "fabrics" font sizing and placement to look more visually centred which helped to balance out the logo in a more pleasant way. I edited the existing colours to fit with more current colour trends while still matching Blackbird's boho style and incorporating classic tones and neutrals to carry the brand into the future.
